कौनWho writes here

People who do the work.

  • Professors and researchers

The finding behind the paper, in words a founder can act on.

  • Entrepreneurs

What running the business taught you that no course did.

  • Startup founders

The decision, the number and the mistake, while it is still fresh.

  • Operators and professionals

The craft of a function, written by someone who does it.

गुणवत्ताWhat quality means here

Eight lines. Every piece is read against them.

The same standard the house holds its own writing to. Meet all eight and the answer is almost always yes.

  1. 1

    It makes a claim

A piece here says something a reader could disagree with. A summary of what everyone already knows is not a piece. Your claim should fit in two lines.

  2. 2

    Every fact can be checked

Numbers, dates, quotations and names are sourced, linked and dated. If it cannot be checked, it is labelled as your view or it comes out.

  3. 3

    It comes from the work

From your research, your company, your classroom or your clinic. What you saw and measured, not what you read on the way to writing it.

  4. 4

    It is written plainly

Short sentences. Ordinary words. Jargon only where a precise word has no plain one, and then explained.

  5. 5

    It states the other side

The strongest case against your claim, put fairly, and your answer to it. A piece that cannot survive its best objection is not ready.

  6. 6

It leaves the reader with something

A decision, a number, a test or a question the reader can use on Monday. Not a mood.

  7. 7

    It is yours

Your thinking and your words. Tools may help you check or tidy; the argument and the responsibility are yours, and so is the name on it.

  8. 8

    It is new here

Unpublished, or published somewhere you still hold the rights. If it ran elsewhere, say where, and we credit it.

प्रक्रियाThe process

Four steps, and you approve the last.

  1. 1

    Send it

The draft or a link to it, the claim in two lines and two lines about you.

  2. 2

    Read against the standard

Read by Nikhil, against the eight lines on this page and nothing else. Yes, not yet or no, with the reason.

  3. 3

    Edited together

Edited with you, not on you. Facts checked, sentences tightened, the title argued over. Nothing runs until you approve the final text. A reply to one of Nikhil’s pieces, a संवाद Samvād, runs as you wrote it.

  4. 4

    Published with your name

In Soch under the right length and head, with your byline, your author page and full credit. You keep the copyright.

ग्रंथBooks

Three books in the coming year. Room for a fourth.

Nikhil is writing three books for the coming year, each with a doctor. If you have a book in you and want to write it together, send a proposal through the form: the claim, the reader and three chapters.
