Thorium is the key. Build everything else now.

Energy is the economy before it is anything else. A country that buys 88% of its crude abroad cannot call itself secure. India has the sun, the water, the thorium and the factories to change that within a generation.

Thorium is the key. Meanwhile stabilise the rest and scale it.

India holds some of the world’s largest thorium reserves and has spent seventy years on a three-stage plan to use them. The fast breeder at Kalpakkam reached first criticality on 7 Apr 2026. For this decade: reactors on time, batteries commissioned, hydro and pumped storage built, hydrogen shipped.

Beat 2070. Counter CBAM.

India should reach net zero before its own 2070 pledge. Europe’s carbon border tax charges a country of 2 tonnes a head the same as one of 7. Answer it with a credible Indian carbon price that Europe must deduct.

Make the hardware in India for the world.

Solar plus storage first. Panels, cells, batteries and electrolysers made here. Hydel and pumped storage are underrated. Offshore wind and green hydrogen are the export story.

India’s energy in eight numbers.

  • 552 GW Power capacity: Just over half of it non-fossil, five years ahead of the 2030 pledge.
  • 8.8 GW Nuclear today: Target 100 GW by 2047.
  • 270.82 GW Record peak demand: And rising every summer.
  • ₹2.86 Solar with four hours of storage: A unit, SECI auction, Oct 2025.
  • 100 GW Pumped storage target: By 2035-36. About 7.4 GW runs today.
  • 2.2 t CO₂ per Indian a year: China 8.7. The United States 14.2.
  • 3.4% India’s share of all CO₂ since 1850: With about a sixth of humanity.
  • 88% Crude oil imported: Apr–Sep 2026.
