One Earth. One family. One future.
Every other root asks how India does well. This one asks how humanity does. Eight billion people, a warming planet, machines that can think and a Moon within reach again. The routes we choose this century will decide the next thousand years.
Seven routes, stated plainly.
AI as a partner, not a master.
Machines that reason will do more of the work. The question is whether they widen human choice or narrow it. Build them with people, for people, and keep the human in the loop where it matters.
Go beyond Earth.
In April 2026 four people flew farther from Earth than anyone ever had. India has landed near the Moon’s south pole and plans its own station by 2035 and an Indian on the Moon by 2040.
Offer India’s ideas to the world.
Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the world is one family, was the theme of India’s G20 in 2023. Dharma and balance are old answers to a new crowding.
Live within limits.
2025 was about 1.44°C warmer than pre-industrial times and carbon dioxide reached 432 parts per million. A civilisation that lasts lives inside the planet’s boundaries.
A cooperative path to space, not a race.
India’s best space work has been shared: NISAR with NASA and the next Moon mission with Japan. The Moon is big enough for partners.
Adapt to a world past 1.5°C while still cutting.
The three years to 2025 averaged 1.48°C above pre-industrial. At COP30 countries agreed to at least triple adaptation finance by 2035. Cutting emissions and preparing for heat are now one job.
Plan for a world that stops growing.
The world’s population peaks at about 10.3 billion in the mid-2080s and India’s at about 1.7 billion in the early 2060s. Fewer young people will support more old ones. Every system must be built for that.
The century in six numbers.
- 8.2 bn People on Earth, 2024: Peaking near 10.3 billion in the 2080s.
- 73.3 Years a person lives on average: Up 8.4 years since 1995.
- 1.44°C Warming in 2025: Above 1850–1900. 2023–25 averaged 1.48°C.
- 432 ppm Carbon dioxide, May 2026: Mauna Loa peak.
- 7 of 9 Planetary boundaries crossed: Planetary Health Check 2025.
- 252,756 mi Farthest humans have travelled: Artemis II, Apr 2026.
