Union Budget 2026–27, in full
₹53.47 lakh crore of spending. A deficit of 4.3% of GDP. ₹12.2 lakh crore to build. Eight chapters with every figure traced to the Budget documents, and a calculator for your own income tax.
From the Union Budget 2026–27 by Ministry of Finance, Government of India, released 1 February 2026.
What a founder takes from it: This is a Budget of steady hands, not big swings. The deficit keeps falling, from 9.2% of GDP in 2020–21 to 4.3%. Capex still rises but more slowly than its 2020–23 sprint. Interest already takes about 40% of revenue, which is why debt reduction matters. For founders the money sits in electronics components, semiconductors, biopharma, containers, carbon capture and the new city regions. The ₹10,000 crore SME Growth Fund is equity, not credit. One setback for AI builders: the IndiaAI Mission line halves to ₹1,000 crore.
