Trump gives Iran talks more time. Brent falls to $110. India’s bill stays at war prices

Oil fell over 3% on Monday after Axios reported Trump told Netanyahu that diplomacy needs more time. Sensex added over 900 points by late morning. Ships are still being hit in the Gulf.

Oil fell more than 3% on Monday. Brent traded near $110 a barrel, down from about $118 last week. The reason is one phone call. Axios reported that President Trump told Prime Minister Netanyahu on Saturday that diplomacy with Iran needs more time before any new strikes. Nothing is settled. The risk has moved. It has not gone.

The talks are real. Iranian and Qatari officials held a third straight day of meetings. Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said they are ongoing and progressing, and that Tehran is prepared for both defence and diplomacy. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said no decision has been made on strikes. OPEC+ left its December targets unchanged on Sunday. The sea has not calmed. UKMTO reported a ship struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday.

Dalal Street took the news well. At 11:21 IST the Sensex was up 936.70 points at 75,396.23 and the Nifty up 265.75 at 23,318.85. These are intraday numbers. Reliance did much of the lifting, up over 7.7% after a record quarterly profit of ₹29,550 crore. The rupee did not join in. It opened 21 paise weaker at 94.97 to the dollar.

India’s exposure is the number to hold on to. PPAC data show the crude bill rose 46.3% to $90.6 billion in April–September, while volumes barely moved at 122.7 million tonnes. This is a price shock and India pays it in dollars. India imports over 85% of its crude. Each $1 on a barrel adds up to $2 billion a year. On that rule, the $8 fall from last week’s high is worth up to $16 billion a year, if it holds.

It may not. KCM Trade’s Tim Waterer called the fall a technical pullback and sees Brent near $120 if rhetoric rises after Tuesday’s US midterms. UBS expects about $110 at year-end. The Bharat Renewable Energy Summit runs at Bharat Mandapam from today to 5 November. Its subject is the lasting answer to this week’s headline.

What a founder takes from it: A lower price on a Monday is relief. It is not a plan. Founders should budget on oil near $110 until ships stop being hit, and India should keep spreading its trade risk and building solar plus storage, with the hardware made at home.
