Houthi strikes on Saudi Arabia push Brent to a five-month high
An attack on Dammam airport killed two people, one of them an Indian national, and Aramco told staff to leave its Dhahran headquarters.
An attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam on 21 October killed two people, a Saudi citizen and an Indian national, and wounded eight, Al Jazeera reported. Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority said operations resumed the next day. Six sources told Reuters that Saudi Aramco told staff to leave its Dhahran headquarters and work remotely. Aramco did not comment.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group had targeted Aramco facilities in Yanbu and the defence ministry in Riyadh, which Saudi authorities did not confirm. The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted drones over Riyadh and Medina. Fighting has escalated since September, when the Houthis pushed towards the Bab el-Mandeb strait.
Brent settled at $113.17 on 22 October, a five-month high. India’s embassy confirmed the Indian national’s death and that two Indians were injured, and advised residents not to film interceptions. For India, a large importer of crude, oil above $110 raises both the import bill and freight costs.
What a founder takes from it: If you import, ship or sell anything energy-heavy, price in oil above $110 and Red Sea freight risk for this quarter.
