India won the first Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship twice over. On 31 October in Ahmedabad the women beat Uganda 35-15. Hours later the men beat Sri Lanka 54-20. Both sides went through the event unbeaten. It is a विजय Vijay for a game rooted in India and now carried to the Commonwealth.

The men’s final was over by half-time. India led 15-8 with ten minutes left in the half, then scored 15 points to Sri Lanka’s 2 to go in 30-10 up. Aditya Shinde made a Super 10 with ten raid points from 14 raids. Bharat Hooda added eight, all after the break. Yogesh Dahiya won all five of his tackles for a High 5. India inflicted four all-outs and conceded none. Sri Lanka converted 7 of 41 raids. Maduwantha led their defence with six tackle points, including two Super Tackles.

Captain Surjeet Singh and vice-captain Naveen Kumar led a side that won all eight matches. It beat England, Uganda, Malaysia, Nigeria, Tanzania and Sri Lanka in the group, then Bangladesh 56-27 in the semi-final. It scored 380 points and conceded 193. In the women’s final Sakshi scored nine points against a Uganda side that had beaten Kenya to get there. Credit to every player and to the coaches behind both squads.

The field tells the bigger story. Teams came from Africa, Europe and Asia. Kabaddi is no longer a South Asian game. The next step is to keep that field growing so the margins narrow. A sport that wins every match needs rivals who can push it.

What a founder takes from it: Dominance is built in the leagues, not on match day. A sport with a domestic professional system now exports its depth. Founders should note the pattern: build the home market first, then take it to the world.
