Gurnoor Brar takes four and rain saves a wobbling chase. India lead New Zealand 2-0

India bowled New Zealand out for 134 in Wellington, then slipped to 113 for 7 before rain stopped play. They were four runs ahead of the DLS par.

India lead the five-match ODI series 2-0. They beat New Zealand by four runs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method at Hnry Stadium in Wellington on Saturday. Rain ended play after 26 overs of the chase. India were 113 for 7 against a par score of 109. The bowlers won this match. The batting nearly lost it.

Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bowl in a match cut to 47 overs a side. New Zealand were 53 for 5 after 20 overs. Daryl Mitchell made 55 and Mitchell Santner 31. No one else passed 11. Gurnoor Brar took 4 for 30 in his 10 overs, his best ODI figures, including Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips in one over. Auqib Nabi took 2 for 31. New Zealand were all out for 134 in 41 overs.

The chase was harder than it should have been. Gill fell first ball. Virat Kohli made 7 and Rohit Sharma 23. Jacob Duffy took 3 for 35 and Kyle Jamieson took three as well. Shreyas Iyer made 30 and KL Rahul was 26 not out when the rain came. India had lost seven wickets chasing 135.

Credit to Brar and the seam attack. They bowled tight lines and turned a toss into a lead. The batting is the अनुभव Anubhav to carry to Hamilton. Gill said after the match that India kept losing wickets. That is the right diagnosis. Three matches remain, and the series is not yet won.

What a founder takes from it: The bowlers built the lead and the batters nearly gave it away. A win that hides a weak process is still a warning. Fix the process while the scoreboard is kind.
