India finished the Asian Champions Trophy league with five wins from five. The defending champions beat South Korea 8-0 in Jalandhar on Monday. Seven different players scored. India now play the same opponent in the semi-final on Wednesday.

Dilpreet Singh opened in the eighth minute, from a Jarmanpreet Singh assist, and added a second in the 40th. Jugraj Singh and captain Harmanpreet Singh scored from penalty corners in the 11th and 15th. Three goals in four minutes after half-time ended the contest: Shilanand Lakra in the 33rd, Sukhjeet Singh in the 34th and Sanjay in the 36th. Sanjay was named Player of the Match. Angad Bir Singh scored the last in the final minute.

India top the table on 15 points with a goal difference of +29. Japan have 10, Malaysia 9, South Korea 6, China 2 and Bangladesh 1. Japan beat Malaysia 2-1 and China drew 1-1 with Bangladesh on the same day. Harmanpreet leads the scoring chart with nine goals.

The semi-finals move to the Olympian Balbir Singh Senior International Hockey Stadium in Mohali on Wednesday 4 November. Japan play Malaysia at 16:30 and India play South Korea at 19:00. Khel Now reports the medal matches on 5 November. India are five-time champions and are playing for a sixth title.

What a founder takes from it: Seven scorers in one match is the real result. A team that wins only when its star scores has a single point of failure. The 8-0 counts for nothing on Wednesday, because a knockout starts at nil-nil against an opponent who has just studied you.
